Local startup company Caribbean Canvas Company just celebrated their first year here on Grand Cayman and for those of us that know this cool company, that’s no surprise. CCC, as they call it, actually designs and manufactures clothing, hats, accessories and some of the greatest bags around.
When you live, or work, or travel in the Caribbean, bags are part of your life. Just to get on or off the island, you need to carry your stuff across the water and that means you always end up on a plane or a boat, lugging all your goods.
Combine that with the fact that when you actually live in a place surrounded by the sea, you spend a lot of time in, on, under, or next to the water, and you almost always find yourself carrying belongings around. Bags are a just part of life down here.
CCC has designed an incredible variety of bags to handle just about anything, to last for a long, long time and to look good doing it. Their “Caribbean Cari-All” series of bags is the mainstay of the company and these bags go from simple to specialised in all their functions. As you might expect, canvas is the dominant material for these bags and they use everything from lightweight canvas sheeting all the way up to the heaviest “fire hose” grade canvas, all in their great signature colors.
Divers and sportsmen will appreciate that CCC also have a few specialty and technical bags in their “CrewTECH” line that aren’t made out of canvas, but rather proprietary fabrics that look they could stop a bullet.
When it comes to handles, trims, and stitching on all their bags, they spare no expense. They feature actual “weight belt webbing” and nautical grade line for their handles and straps, marine grade stainless steel attachments, and heavy nylon zippers and threads that are often double and triple stitched and bar-tacked.
Many are even finished with their own proprietary stain and mold/mildew treatment, “Cari-Coat.” Quite possibly the “coolest” bags they have at CCC are their “Cooler Totes”; fully insulated tote bags to hold your food and drinks for the beach!
