With New Year’s resolutions being broken left and right, most people have recognised that the good intentions they had in January has trouble standing up against the reality of the eleven other months out there. It seems to apply to getting fit even more than to many other resolutions.

Finding time for something that is often no fun at all can be a chore many would rather avoid.

However, if you can combine fun and fitness, reviving those resolutions might be possible. One of the best ways to do that is to take a look at watersports, which can range from the tranquil to the frenetic, meaning you will be able to find something that suits you perfectly.

One of the up and coming watersports is stand-up paddle boarding, but don’t let the apparently tranquil nature of the activity fool you; it is an excellent form of exercise.

Just standing on the board requires a constant balancing act, which recruits muscles in the legs and the core. Once you start paddling, the core gets an even better workout, while the arms and shoulders get to join in.

From there it’s up to you how hard you want to work, but be assured that it will be a full body workout, but one where you will have a great view of not only the beach but also the underwater world.

Another good option is taking to the water in a kayak, which grants you unequalled access to Cayman’s coastal waters, whether cruising along Seven Mile Beach or exploring the mangroves close to shore in South Sound. Once again it is up to you how hard your workout is, but a vigorous paddle can certainly build up some excellent fitness.

It is also a great option for those who need to think up a family activity for the weekends, as a two person kayak is a great way to spend quality time whether with a significant other or the kids.
Although paddles boards and kayaks do require a bit of an investment initially, depending on how serious you are the prices can range from quite reasonable to somewhat less so for a higher end model.

And if you don’t feel like spending money on your watersports endeavours, there is always swimming.
