When it comes to combining diving, dining
and a brilliant location on the water, Cobalt Coast is as close to perfect as
one can get.
According to Arie Barendrecht of Cobalt
Coast, the resort is pretty much as for north as you can go on the western end
of Grand Cayman.
“People tend to discover us unexpectedly
and then are amazed to find out that we are located on the north side. We point
straight out to Cuba – it is hardly visible, but that’s where it is,” he
smiles.
With cool breezes pretty much year round,
and an unbeatable view of the ocean, the resort also boasts a somewhat more
rural setting, which according to Arie is exactly what many overseas guests are
looking for when they come to Cayman.
“Of course, we do breakfast, lunch and
dinner seven days a week, any day of the year. But our speciality is taking
care of divers,” says Arie.
With the mini wall just a five minute swim
offshore, and the wall itself just a couple of minutes’ swim further out, the
location is perfect for shore diving, while DiveTech provides boat dives in the
morning and afternoon.
“Most people arrive between one and two in
the afternoon and they are shore diving before five. And if you can do a shore
dive after a long day of travel, that’s value and that’s what they appreciate,”
says Arie.
Of course, divers are not averse to the
occasional pint.
“Once people sit down, the very first thing
they ask is ‘What is local?’,” says Arie.
With various Cayman Islands Brewery
products on tap, Cobalt Coast can certainly offer guests a selection of local
brews.
“It’s been a great beer, and it really hits
the spot for the average American beer drinker. Imagine being raised on
Budweiser and Miller Lite, and now you get to drink a real beer,” laughs Arie.
