With such a diverse population, the
sporting tastes of Grand Cayman’s residents vary greatly, so finding a spot
showing the game you want to see can be a challenge. Enter the Club House, a
sports bar than aims to be a home away from home for all sports fans.
Located at Treasure Island Resort, the bar
is building a reputation for two things – good sports and good food.
“We are open for breakfast, lunch and
dinner. We have a really simple very easy menu with great food, in fact we are
quickly becoming known for our food. Burgers, wings, footlong hotdogs,
sausages, pizzas, and Club House sandwiches are obviously our signatures,” says
Jason Moir of Club House.
According to Jason, the number one food for
sports fans is wings, which is why he paid particular attention to the
selection of wings on the menu.
“We’re getting rave reviews about our wings
– I will put our wings up against anybody in Cayman. We do traditional hot and
barbecue, but then we have Thai wings, we have sweet chilli wings, and garlic
parmesan wings. They’re nice, big jumbo wings,” he says.
Items on the breakfast menu start at around
$6, while lunch and dinner items tend to be between $8 and $9, which means that
a meal and a drink will set you back less than $15.
The menu features fish, stir fry and salad as
well for those who are looking for something other than wings and burgers over
lunch.
The bar also boasts eight beers on tap and
some 15 bottled beers, along with a very good selection of wines and spirits.
Of course, a vital part of any sports bar
is your ability to watch the game you want to watch, and according to Jason
there is nowhere better equipped than Club House.
“Currently we have 21 HD televisions, we
have eight feeds, we have 500 channels per feed. If there is a sporting event
we cannot get, I don’t even think they are televising it,” he laughs.
“We’re doing everything from the Premier
League to NHL Centre Ice, NFL Sunday Ticket, we have the NBA Full Court, all of
the boxing pay per view events, all of the UFC pay per view events, we’re
promoting the Nascar for Sundays, and we’re even promoting the WWE pay per view
events.”
The booths in Club House seat eight
comfortably, and each comes with its own private screen at the end of the
booth, so you can be sure your game will be showing.
“We’re going to be known for the big
events. Superbowl is going to be off the charts – we have the space and I would
like to see a thousand people going through here for Superbowl. We have the
indoor bar, the outdoor bar, the lobby bar, which has seven TVs itself and a
massive HD projection screen. So we have the facility to be the sports bar, the
entertainment venue,” says Jason.
The sporting memorabilia on the walls
currently feature a mix of international and local sporting jerseys, with Jason
especially proud of a pair of boxing gloves signed by local hero Charles
‘Killa’ Whittaker. As the Club House becomes more established on the local
sporting scene, Jason hopes to eventually have all local memorabilia lining the
walls. The sports bar will also be sponsoring teams in the various local
leagues to build even closer bonds with the local sporting community.
“We want to be a sports bar. We called
ourselves Club House Sports Bar and Grill, we didn’t call ourselves Club House
Restaurant and Grill, we called it a sports bar and the emphasis is to be a
sports bar. If the game is on, the game comes first.”
