Dust off your golf clubs and get your dancing shoes on. It’s party time!

Many residents await September with some apprehension, wondering if we will make it through without a hurricane. By far the quietest month of the year, there is barely a tourist in sight; the kids are back in school, while many others depart on vacation. There is not a great deal on the events calendar to look forward to at this time of year - usually. But this year the Cayman Islands Red Cross turns 50, and they want to invite the residents to celebrate with them.

Bringing two of their most popular annual fundraising events together under one banner, this year it will be A September to Remember.

Festivities will kick off on 2 September with the 14th Annual Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Royal Bank of Canada, at the North Sound Golf Club. Teams of four will tee off from 1pm on the Friday afternoon and continue all day Saturday. The star attraction of the tournament this year will be the presence of celebrity golf pros Nick Price and Mark McNulty. A children’s clinic is also planned for the Friday morning. Prizes and surprises throughout the tournament are promised.

A week later, on Saturday 10 September, a lavish Gala Dinner and Dance will be held at the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa, also sponsored by RBC. A gourmet three-course meal will be served while guests enjoy live entertainment and the opportunity to win some great prizes. A live auction will follow the dinner and there will also be a Red Cross balloon raffle. The highlight of the evening, however, will be the performance of a tribute trio act to the Legendary Ladies of Soul. Tina Turner, Donna Summer and the Supremes tribute artistes will take to the stage and really get the party started. Music and dancing will carry on late into the night.

The Cayman Islands Red Cross is appealing to residents and businesses to join them in celebrating this important milestone. With these two fun, well organized social events, planned for what is traditionally the quietest month of the year, this September there will be some great events to look forward to.

The Cayman Islands Red Cross is offering a variety of sponsorship packages to businesses on island. This is a way for businesses to reward employees or show their appreciation to their clients and at the same time support the valuable work of the Red Cross. In addition to a table for 10 at the Gala Dinner and entry in the tournament for a team of four, businesses will receive exposure and a variety of advertising and marketing options for their brand or company, depending on the package.

Individuals will also have the opportunity to purchase entry to either or both of the fund raising events.

All proceeds from the two events will go towards helping out the most vulnerable members of the community, as well as funding the four key programmes the CIRC operates: disaster management, HIV/AIDS education, First Aid/CPR & AED and the Thrift Shop.

Join in the fun and make 2011 a September to Remember! WH
