In an ever-changing dining landscape, Deckers on West Bay Road has firmly established itself as a perennial favourite. The big red double-decker bus that is the signature of the venue is hard to miss, but the venue is so well known that it scarcely needs the attention grabber any more.
After all, if you can have the same live band, Hi Tide, playing the venue for some 11 years, you know you have found a winning formula. However, just because the current formula is a success does not mean there has been no change at Deckers.
According to Jesse Dame, manager at Deckers, the restaurant is famous for its all you can eat lobster nights, but the appeal of the menu extends far beyond that. In fact, under Matthias Nicken, the new executive chef, the menu has been revamped and the restaurant has been voted Cayman’s favourite restaurant in a recent poll as well.
If Happy Hour every night from 5pm to 7pm isn’t enough to entice you, Deckers will also be starting a once-a-month $1 Caybrew night, sure to be a hit with all fans of the local brew and quite possibly winning it a couple more fans along the way.
Although Caybrew is a more recent addition to Deckers’ selection, it hasn’t taken long to win over the regulars.
“It’s great to support the local product, and it’s been doing really well,” says Jesse, who admits to favouring Ironshore Bock when it comes to picking a favourite from the Cayman Islands Brewery’s portfolio.
According to Matt Nicholson, bartender at Deckers, Caybrew and Ironshore Bock offer just the right combination to satisfy Decker’s clientele.
“Caybrew has a nice, light, refreshing taste, while the Ironshore Bock has that nice earthy kick that you want from an amber beer. A lot of people when they come off the beach prefer a nice light beer, or after dinner they want something a little bit stronger, a little stronger in flavour and power as well,”
he says.
