Cayman has a new flavour of musical selection to enjoy, thanks to the recent addition of Vibe 89.9FM Video Jockey and self described entertainer, Slaughter Rich.
The young entertainer, as he prefers to be called, is climbing the ladder and moving up the ranks fast.
“A juggle me a juggle,” he jokes. After moving to the Cayman Islands just under two years ago, he has built up a legion of loyal fans who follow him from party to party. He is also conquering the airwaves and Slaughter Rich’s obvious abilities and uncanny style are no laughing matter.
In reminiscing about his beginnings in music he explains how his journey in
music started.
“I was just another selector (the name used to describe disc jockeys in Jamaica) and stared out playing little parties. It was not long before I was approached by other more prominent DJs at the time to step up.”
The name of the first big sound Slaughter Rich played for was Emperor, after which he began to make a name for himself as one of the hottest and most charismatic DJs in
the Caribbean.
“I came to Cayman because of DJ Atom Skillz, who brought me here to be a selector on his sound system at the time. I really took on to the place and the people have shown me a lot of love, which has been making me more driven, while at the same time, keeping me motivated,” he says.
Now Slaughter Rich’s blend of sonic delight can be found permeating the airwaves every Sunday night from 10pm to 12pm on the Love Moods show on Vibe, where his listenership is continually increasing. Other shows on which musical nourishment may be found, compliments of VJ Slaughter Rich, include the Vibe Connection, every Monday from 8pm to 10pm, the Fully Loaded show on Thursdays from 8pm to 12pm and the Overdrive Show on Saturdays from 12pm to 2pm. The DJ also plays a cast of shows at local night clubs and venues.
“People should leave a dance and feel pleased. There should be no complaints. In fact, anyone who attended or tuned in should have to make some mention of how hype the DJ was, as well as his delivery of tunes. It is an experience that should embody all the emotion of life - ups, downs, happiness, wonder, celebration. Music is life!”
Slaughter Rich says his style is all about originality and creativity is his motto. The DJ plans to launch a new sound system in the near future that will place that ethos at this basis of all its operations, according to the entertainer.
“I am launching sound of my own sometime soon called Hard Rock and to all the supporters and listeners locked on to Vibe, I want to say a big thank you. Keep the calls coming. I will keep the fire burning.”
