Taking your passion to the water

Many people associate Automotive Art with serious cars and car care. However, in Cayman, many people lavish at least as much love on their boats and WaveRunners as on their cars, so it is only logical that the company would extend its services to include these toys for boys as well.

The company recently added Yamaha to its line of products, but according to Wayne Kirkconnell, the commitment goes well beyond just selling Yamaha outboards and WaveRunners. The company is looking to become more involved with the local watersports community, especially as Wayne is a keen boater himself.

This involvement starts with Automotive Art sponsoring one of the trophies in the upcoming Cayman Islands International Fishing Tournament, but will expand into the local Watersports Association and their events, as well as more cooperation with the Cayman Islands Angling Association.

With some of the best conditions for boating and other watersports, Wayne believes there is room for much more growth in the local watersports scene and believes that Automotive Art has the right approach to help lead the charge.

Wayne says the company is taking its philosophy in cars, ‘Your car, our passion’, into their marine line as well, changing it to ‘Your boat, our passion’ and offering everything from full services to products and advice for the do-it-yourself enthusiasts and even detailing services and products to keep your boat ship shape. He has also found that many of their existing customer base are already into their boats or water craft. The company has also extended its premises in order to offer customers enough room to park their boats (on trailers of course!).

According to Wayne, the idea with the launch of their marine line was not to gently dip their toe in the water, but jump right in. This involved a lot of training for the staff, which now boasts Yamaha certified mechanics, as well as stocking an extensive range of spares for the Yamaha range.

However, Wayne is quick to point out that the lifespan of a four-stroke outboard can easily be the average recreational boater will run a boat’s engine for around 100 hours per year, which means that a four stroke Yamaha engine will, if maintained properly, last well beyond your next upgrade.
