For any company starting out in a competitive marketplace, differentiation is a key element of success. For Parfait Weddings and Events, making use of Cayman’s most famous resource, its crystal clear ocean, is one component of that differentiation. Although beach weddings are the bread and butter when it comes to wedding ceremonies in Cayman, strangely enough few have taken that to the next level – underwater.

After all, what can be more perfect for a couple in love with diving and adventure than tying the knot underwater or renewing their vows surrounded by coral and tropical fish?

According to Rebecca Bateman-Green of Parfait, in addition to all the usual challenges faced by wedding planners, the underwater weddings provide some unique logistical challenges of their own. For one, communication isn’t the easiest thing (in this case the written word is far more powerful than the spoken word and underwater slates are provided) and as it is somewhat difficult to find a marriage officer certified to scuba, the legal element of the ceremony has to be conducted on dry land.

Of course, wedding photos can also pose a challenge, which is why Rebecca partnered with renowned underwater photographer Cathy Church to put together underwater wedding packages that include Cathy and an assistant for still photography and an underwater videographer as well. For any avid diver, there is a certain cachet to having a photographer of Cathy’s renown take photos of your wedding. The packages range from a shore dive package to a boat dive for the couple and up to 14 (scuba certified) guests. All packages also include Rebecca’s services as wedding planner, a wedding cake, and champagne, as well as decorations and all the necessities for a legal marriage.

Of course, Rebecca does not limit herself to underwater weddings, and started Parfait in order to provide the best possible service to her customers by not being tied in to any venues or service providers. She says that with so many excellent service providers on Island, being independent allows her to put together weddings that best suit the tastes and budgets of her customers.

And for those who have been wondering, Rebecca did not name her company after a dessert – ‘parfait’ is also French for ‘perfect’.   WH
