The Million Dollar Run brings an annual rush of speed to the slow Easter long weekend. The event brings out the best local powerboat racers for this popular powerboat race and poker run. The roar of the powerful engines and the spectacle of high-speed open water racing is certain to inject a healthy dose of excitement into the weekend, with spectators able to marvel at the magnificent boats that take to the water during the event.

The main event is set to take place on Easter Monday, but will be preceded by a weekend filled with events ranging from the stylish to the adrenaline-filled.

The weekend’s activities kicks off with the Captain’s Cocktail Reception on Thursday 21 April at Grand Old House, and will serve as an information and social meeting for the boat captains and officials of the event.

On Friday 22 April it is time for the High Rollers VIP Lounge at Elements, which will serve as the official kick-off party for the event, featuring the talents of DJ Billy Corduroy of Spin 94.9 FM and VJ Docta of Vibe 98.9FM.

On Saturday 23 April the Million Dollar Car and Boat Show will take place at Royal Palms from 11am to 4pm, featuring performance boats and luxury cars, including a number of select show cars from the Cayman Motor Museum.

The Captains and Sponsor Dinner will take place on Saturday evening at the Reef Grill, with dinner at the poolside cabanas and a bonfire.

The main course takes place on Monday 25 April as the race takes to the water at Royal Palms Beach.

This year the event will include the Thunder Run Jet Ski Challenge with a Pro class and Rookie class and over US$3,000 in prizes. The main event this year will also include a new Pleasure craft class for leisure boats and new captain looking to get involved in the event. The Circuit class will feature experienced captains and medium performance class, while the big boys will take part in the Offshore class for high performance craft.

The route will entail an exciting rolling start from the Marriott Beach Resort area 300 yards offshore, the crafts will then blast up our world-famous Seven Mile Beach heading west towards the Public Beach area and continue to Northwest Point, before making a turn and heading back south towards the Thompson Mooring in George Town, then making another sharp turn before heading back to Royal Palms.

In addition to prizes for the winners in each class, before and after the race, teams will draw cards for a poker hand, with the best hand walking away with the prize.

Apart from the racing action on the water, there will also be numerous activities for spectators and families, including the Corona Kayak inflatable race, which will be a tag team race for family and friends, a Wowballs expo for those who would like to experience walking on water, the Corona volleyball tournament hosted by the Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation, as well as a bouncy castle for kids and numerous other family activities.

The Ugland Offshore Racing Million Dollar Run is presented by Cayman Motor Museum, CayCompass.com, Butterfield, Corona Extra and Corona Light, Bacardi, Paramount Media, Vibe 98.9FM, and Spin 94.9FM.   WH
