Spring is here and in the Cayman Islands that means it is time to showcase the biggest livestock and the healthiest crops.

The Cayman Islands Agricultural Society is preparing for the country’s biggest agricultural display. Local vendors will be out in droves for the 44th edition of the Agricultural Show. The event is slated to take place on Ash Wednesday, 9 March at its usual setting in the Stacy Watler Agricultural Pavilion in Lower Valley. The all-day affair, which normally sees opening hours of 8am to 8pm, will feature food vendors, livestock exhibits and horticultural presentations.

Many different types of crops are slated to be on show from local favourite pumpkin to zucchini. In addition interesting varieties of cows, horses and goats will be on show in their pens. In the past the show has had special eco-friendly exhibits such as fish tanks with local farm-raised tilapia.

The family atmosphere is complete with entertainment from local bands, arts and crafts and activities for kids such as face painting and a bouncing castle. Toss in massive equestrian displays and chances to sample local cuisine and it’s easy to see why over thousands attend the show each year, and why it has continued to grow in popularity over the last four decades.

The show usually includes the opportunity to buy raffle tickets as well for a chance to win a selection of great prizes. Just remember that with thousands of people likely to attend, parking and traffic can be a problem, so please be patient and take care when driving through the area.
