Alyssa Granstrand is a pretty stunning blond bartender who decided at quite a young age that she was going to go in search of a different life. A Canadian with gusto, she now serves up the drinks at Royal Palms’ fabulous new swim up pool bar that reminds one of the casual, groovy vibe to be found in South Beach.

Alyssa was born in St. Albert, Alberta; a suburb of Edmonton. She attended a performing arts school in her teenage years, following her passion for dance – particularly ballet, which she taught after passing the required examinations.

From the age of 15 she began working at Moxie’s Classic Grill first as a busser/hostess and then as a server. Four years later when she finished school, Alyssa wanted to hit the road… or the skies. Her parents had always wanted to live in the Cayman Islands and they had friends here, so she figured that a jaunt south was in order. She packed up her dancing shoes and moved to Grand Cayman in 2007.

Since arriving here, she has worked at a number of very popular, high-volume venues such as Breezes by the Bay and Aqua Beach. She began as a server, but worked her way up to bartender status which is the position she now holds at Royal Palms. She couldn’t be joining this hotspot at a better time. The owners decided a few months ago to transform a large portion of the grounds to an enticing deck complete with spacious swimming pool sporting ever-changing coloured lights, and cabanas with flowing white curtains guaranteed to turn your ordinary day or night into an extraordinary one. Take a dip in the refreshing waters, and gently paddle yourself over to the bar where you can enjoy a beverage without interrupting your swim. The height of decadence!

Alyssa is planning to stick with bartending for the time being, although she wouldn’t mind teaching dance as well. Perhaps there are ways to mingle the two disciplines? The Ballerina Bartender! Whilst she contemplates such heady decisions, you should go and visit her at Royal Palms rebooted! The gorgeous upgrade alone is worth a look, and it certainly doesn’t hurt to be served by a savvy young woman who knows her drinks and always puts her customers first.

Stop by Royal Palms in the heart of Seven Mile Beach and see what you’ve been missing!   WH
