G NowakSarah McTaggart was born into music. Having a family of musicians, there is seldom a quiet moment at any family gathering; everyone sings or plays an instrument.
Her dad, local business man Steve McTaggart has been a huge inspiration for Sarah. Steve along with his brother Mike were themselves a very popular duo in the 70s to 80s performing at venues throughout the Island. Sarah’s uncle, Mark McTaggart is one of the very few local musicians who actually make a full time living playing music (drums) with several local groups.
Sarah figures she was singing before she could talk. Her public appearances started at church and school events when she was about 8, by her 15th birthday Sarah started fooling around with the guitar and advanced to her first open mic at 17.
Song writing has now become Sarah’s passion, she describes it as therapy. “Sometimes life is overwhelming, love, loss, fear, anger, they can get the best of me, and music helps me to make sense of it all”.
Sarah can’t imagine herself doing anything besides music, so she plans on moving to the USA next year to fulfill her dream of making the big time. She hopes to record her own album someday and travel the world performing her own original songs. She knows it’s not going to be easy, it takes more than talent and luck, the most important ingredient is determination and Sarah has plenty of that.
Though she wouldn’t oppose it, the financial benefits of stardom are not that important to Sarah, as long as she can make music, share it with people and maybe afford some sushi now and then. In the mean time you can enjoy Sarah’s silky vocals at The Brickhouse on Mondays, Calico Jack's on Tuesdays, Havana Club on Wednesdays, and Aqua Beach on Thursdays.
