Unusual cutlery and contemporary home ware imbued with the designer brand’s own eccentric soul have seduced clients’ imagination the world over, and are now available and distributed in Grand Cayman by Absolutely Fabulous in Caymanian Village.

Carrol Boyes started designing and making her unique pewter cutlery 18 years ago in her own home’s basement but the phenomenal demand for her quirky items soon meant that bigger and better premises were needed. The designer looked to the rural community in Africa’s Limpopo Valley, where the impoverished Shangaan people had an age-old talent for making three dimensional designs through their tradition woodcarvings. Not only were they a natural choice to be crafters at the Boyes factory, but also this welcome employment opportunity meant that the Shangaan could live in dignity and feed their families.

Today the factory employs 350 people, each one of them providing for up to 10 family members. Every item in this timelessly elegant range has been lovingly hand finished and crafted, contributing to its beautiful and unique appearance.

Carrol’s passion for and love of Africa is evident in her work and the many social projects she initiates bear testimony to the culture and ethos of the company.
