So you’ve been to dinner already this week (twice) and gone clubbing (again) and seen a film you weren’t very keen on in the first place. And it’s only Thursday evening. What else is there to do?
Well, ever considered hypnosis?
No, not to convince you that you enjoy doing the same thing every weekend, but as part of a night of great entertainment at Vivendi.
Whether you ‘believe’ in the power of hypnosis or not, the entertainment value is absolutely brilliant.
Derek Marshall, Master Stage Hypnotist, is the man behind the show, and he knows how to coax an award-winning performance out of even the most reluctant volunteer.
He studied, trained under and performed with some of the world’s best Master Stage Hypnotists such as Jerry Valley, Tommy Vee, Alex Mitt, Marc Savard, Richard Barker and others.
Although Derek facilitates the show, the true stars are the audience members, as Derek has to rely on the imagination of his subjects to colour in his instructions.
Although all volunteers have to be over 18, the show itself is definitely family friendly, and Derek keeps matters well in hand, seeing to it that no-one causes themselves too much embarrassment. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be laughing hard enough to cause minor injuries.
Once Derek has explained a bit about hypnosis, and shown just how susceptible people can be to suggestion, it’s time for the volunteers to take the stage. As Derek moves the volunteers through the different stages of hypnosis, he weeds out those who are not going under until a small group of volunteers are left. Then it’s time for the fun to begin.
From convincing the participants that the number six does not exist, to making them believe they are fluent in Japanese, the antics of the volunteers will have you laughing until your sides hurt (and secretly have you wondering whether you would have been able to do better.)
“I am often asked by people ‘Is it real?’ When dealing with the subject there will always be sceptics, but seeing is believing so my recommendation is always to come and see the show,” says Derek.
He says that many people are nervous about going on stage, but after seeing the show they are keen to return and be part of the action. The show is never the same from night to night as it takes audience participation to a new level. WH
For those interested in something a little different, Vivendi’s new Cirque Du Cayman show also opens this month, with a cast of internationally accomplished acts as seen in Cirque Du Soleil.
Derek takes to the stage on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with the doors opening at 8.30pm for the 9pm show. Tickets are $30 and can be reserved by calling 943-7469.
