Body and mind in harmony with nature

Living in harmony with nature can be a challenge, especially in a world where we are always rushing from one thing to the next. Finding the right balance between taking care of business and taking care of yourself can be a challenge. It is little wonder then that the environment is often the last thing on our minds.

According to Diane Donovan of Body Works, the idea of living in greater harmony with nature certainly fits into the philosophy of yoga, which focuses on the awareness of self.

“How can you be in harmony with nature when you cannot even live in harmony with your body,” says Diane.

“We go through life totally oblivious to the pain we go through, not respecting our own bodies let alone respecting the earth. By learning to take care of your own body you are really learning how to take care of the earth,” she says.

Diane hopes that through the yoga classes taught at Body Works people will become somewhat more aware of their bodies and also their environment.

There are classes for everyone, from beginner classes to therapeutic yoga classes for those with specific issues like back issues or stress issues. Body Works also hosts prenatal yoga classes to help expectant mothers prepare for the big day.

The company tries to walk the walk as well as talk the talk when it comes to being environmentally aware.

“In all our facials, our pedicures, in everything we do we maintain that idea of being a green spa as much as we can. We are always mindful of it. We use as few disposable items as possible. We use the organic products and we have bags that are biodegradable and we also sell reusable bags so with all those things we really try to be more green. This has been a focus of ours for a long time,” says Diane.

From using energy-saving light bulbs wherever possible to switching over to all organic linens, Diane believes that every small step the company can take towards being a little more green will help to make a difference in the long run.   WH
