Two of the most popular participation sports in the Cayman Islands are running and open water swimming. The Ogier Stroke & Stride series combines the two in a series of events stretching over three weeks in August.
The event bring manageable distances to multisport, with the swim increasing from 400 metres to 800 metres over the course of the three events, while the run remains constant at 2 miles.
From top local triathletes, swimmers and runners to first time participants, athletes can take part individually or as members of a team, with one completing the swim and one completing the run.
The event draws big fields every year, with many athletes using it as a springboard to prepare for the Cayman Islands Triathlon in November.
The growth in the event has attracted a steady flow of sponsors over the years, with Ogier having sponsored the event the last couple of editions.
The swim starts from Sunset House, with the first event, set for 11 August, featuring a 400 metre swim. This will be followed by a 600 metre swim in the second event on 18 August, and an 800 metre swim in the final event on 25 August. The 800 metre swim is equivalent to the swim distance in a sprint distance triathlon.
The run takes participants from Sunset House down South Church Street for a mile before turning back to Sunset House and the finish line.
