Main Story:
Gay Morse of Pirates Point
Jackson Wall and Reef
The mooring is attached in about 20 feet of water. There are two really large coral heads that have a sidewalk of sand going between them. Most dives go out to the wall first, and look at gorgonian sea fans for cling fish, or neck crabs. There are lots of cleaning stations and Nassau grouper, schools of Creole wrasse and blue chromis can be found on the top of the wall. Sightings of turtles or reef sharks are quite common. As you come into the shallows, there is a mini wall running in about 20 feet of water. This is an excellent place to find pipehorses, pipefish, Pedersen cleaning shrimp, file clams and as you go up the sidewalk of sand, there are sometimes tarpon or schools of grunts and schoolmasters hanging out.
Lea Lea's Lookout
This is a Bloody Bay dive with the mooring about 40 feet down. As you go forward of the mooring, there is a hole that when taken opens up into a cavern-like swim through. As you go down the swim through, off to the right is what is often called the Cathedral Room. It is a round cut out that usually has sunlight Jacobs' Fingers filtering down through it. As you come out onto the wall at about 80-90 feet it is always dynamic. Lots of turtles hang there, a green eel lives in the shallows, but he is also occasionally seen free swimming along with schools of Bermuda chubs, schoolmasters, grunts, and blue chromis. Turn left on the wall, and after swimming a slow 10 minutes you come up another swim through that is open at the top. It starts at about 70 feet and ends up putting you out at about 40 feet in the shallows. The mooring is attached to the coral and on either side of it are two strips of sand that are great for finding baby jawfish, decorator crabs, and many great cleaning stations that usually have a large grouper in them. A co-worker of Gay’s, Michelle, recently found a white seahorse and two octopuses out playing together. This is a dive site that has a bit of everything. WH
