The fish was caught one mile north of Rum Point.
“We were slow trawling naked ballyhoo baits at about four knots and saw two frigate birds close to the water so I positioned the boat about 500 yards in front of the birds and slacked back the baits underneath them,” recalls Carl Edwards.
“Then all of a sudden the dolphin just exploded on the baits and we had a smaller female dolphin on the line first. Known as the cow, and knowing that they run in schools with the male, the bull being the leader, we slacked back another line just behind the first fish and sure enough the bull came up and inhaled it. After about 20 minutes of spectacular leaping and jumping the both fish were landed in the boat one after another by Clarke Smith. It is a real joy to watch the spectacle of a large dolphin as it tries to evade the angler.”
