One of the most popular spots along the Seven Mile Beach strip is Aqua Beach Bar. The bar draws a mix of locals, expats and tourists with a simple yet effective philosophy.
“We want to be that place where people can go any night of the week because there’s always something going on at Aqua Beach,” says manager Jason Moir.
“We are a place where people can come and be entertained, whether it is listening to bands, DJs, comedians, karaoke night, pay per view sports or the World Cup of soccer.”
The bar also caters for its wide range of customers through its menu choices.
“We have chicken wings for the North Americans, for the English we have curry and for the locals we have jerk chicken and jerk pork.”
Central to the bar’s success are the three Cayman Islands Brewery beers Aqua Beach has on tap – Caybrew, CayLight and Ironshore Bock.
The staff at Aqua Beach recently attended the Gold Member programme, where staff members were educated on all things Caybrew.
“Many people in the service industry have never been to a brewery,” says Jason. “We’re very fortunate with Caybrew – it’s a beautiful brewery,” says Jason.
He believes becoming a Gold Member is really important.
“It lets our customers know that our staff has been educated on everything from how beer is processed to how it’s poured. That’s important, because then they know what they’re selling, and the more you know about your product, the easier it is to sell it.”
Everyone was very impressed with the brewery’s recycling efforts as well.
“When someone asks whether there is recycling on the Island, I can say ‘Yes, there is,’” says Jason.
Being more than a mere local beer makes Caybrew something special, according to Jason.
Although tourists often ask for a local beer, Jason finds it telling that his biggest market for Caybrew is residents.
“Locals and expats ask for Caybrew, and that’s huge. Then again, if your beer’s winning awards globally, you’re doing something right.” WH
