Many regulars of OBar night club have already been seduced by the universally appealing sound of resident DJ Gizzy.

Hailing from the small parish of Trillani, the DJ built his skills through years of performing at all inclusive hotels and clubs throughout Jamaica and the greater Caribbean region.

Because of the ability he displayed at not only DJing but also MCing, he was recruited by Senor Frogs to do his thing at their various locations.

It was one such excursion that brought Gizzy to Grand Cayman, which would end up becoming his home away from home.

Not long after arriving in Cayman, Gizzy moved on to Vibe 98.9 FM, where he had his own show, before moving on to Spin FM and ultimately HOT 104.1 FM, where he can now be heard every Saturday from 10am to 3pm.

He puts in five nights a week at OBar, spinning tunes for party people from all walks of life.

Even though five nights of partying a week might seem like hard work, Gizzy takes it in his stride, which is made easier because, unlike many other DJs on the Island, he doesn’t have another job.

“When I’m not DJing, I’m sleeping. It is not a burden for me and actually, it keeps me energised and invigorated,” he says.

According to Gizzy he really gets a trip out of seeing so many different people enjoying his work. For him, this is part of the allure of being an entertainer.

“It’s addictive,” he said, chuckling.

Being from the Caribbean, reggae plays an important role in Gizzy’s set.

“In most clubs all over the world you have a break down point in the night and the Disc Jockey will usually play a softer type of vibe. For me, I use reggae that everyone can feel during that period and it works like magic.”

Gizzy says this is evidence that the art form has progressed well over time.

“Bands like the Love Generation and that type of feeling is what I love to promote. Only they say Jamaica to the world and I say Gizzy to the world.”   WH
