The Hard Rock Cafe in George Town will be going big this April – even bigger than usual. The restaurant will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary with some rocking events, the best of which promises to be the Ambassadors of Rock competition.

Ambassadors of Rock kicked off on 7 April with the first of three weeks of heats, with the next two heats taking place on 14 and 21 April.

The event will have an American Idol flavour to it, albeit without Simon Cowell and his cutting criticism (or Paula Abdul and her unbearably sunny outlook). It will however feature a panel of judges as well as audience participation. Each evening of heats will produce a winner, and these three, plus one ‘lucky dog’ will go head to head in the final on 28 April.

There might not be a record contract on the line, but the prize is far more awesome – an all expenses paid trip for two to London for Hard Rock Calling. The prize includes flights, three nights hotel stay at the Intercontinental London Park Lane, spending money and tickets to Hard Rock Calling, for three nights with acts like Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney and Ben Harper.

Build a burger
For those who feel their talents lie with food more than music, there is the Birthday Burger competition. You design your own Hard Rock burger and if it is judged as the best of the best at the final on 29 April you win free burgers for a year – one per week.

The night will feature live music and a taste test for all who attend.

The event will run in conjunction with Z99, who will taste and discuss the burgers on the morning show.

Air Guitar
Looking ahead, May will see the return of the annual Cayman Air Guitar Championships on Cinco de Mayo. Break out your most awesome riffs and you could be on your way to a Hard Rock Hotel property in Florida for a two night stay, flights included.

The evening will feature two live bands as well as the event turns into a street party as part of Batabano.
