There can be no more suitable venue for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish Jog than the rolling green hills of the Britannia golf course. Although describing the undulations of the course as hills might be pushing it, the 3.1-mile course remains quite challenging as it winds its way along the cart path around the golf course. It affords runners the rare opportunity to break away from the usual pavement pounding runs.
The event is one of the biggest fun runs in Cayman, with runners relishing the opportunity to run in a different environment.
This is the 18th edition of the event, with Butterfield Bank (Cayman) and Grand Cayman Beach Suites serving as sponsors once again.
All playing on the golf course is suspended for the event, as most golfers would be terribly distracted by hundreds of runners charging around the course.
The entry fee is $10 per person and all proceeds will be donated in support of diabetes. All participants will receive a T-shirt and stand a chance to win one of the many spot prizes available.
These will include sunset sails, dinners for two and spa services. For those looking to add a bit more fun and colour to their running, there will also be free hats, face stickers and even wigs.
Post event food and refreshments will also be provided to help everyone recover from the day’s exertions.
Defending champions are Scott Brittain and Beth Schreader.
Registration takes place at Butterfield House, 68 Fort Street on Monday, 8 March, to Friday, 12 March, from 9am to 4pm and continues at the Britannia Bar & Grille at Grand Cayman Beach Suites on Saturday, 13 March, to Tuesday, 16 March, from 8am to 5pm. You can also register on the day of the event, Wednesday, 17 March, at Grand Cayman Beach Suites starting at 12pm by the golf course. WH
