The animals and animal lovers of the Cayman Islands owe the Cayman Islands Humane Society a great debt of gratitude.
On Saturday, 20 March, the animal lovers get to show their appreciation at the annual Humane Society fundraising dinner. The event celebrates the 38th year of the Humane Society and will take place at the Marriott Beach Resort on West Bay Road.
Guests will be welcomed with a champagne reception starting at 7pm, during which they will be able to bid on a variety of items and services during the silent auction. This will be followed by a candle-lit three course dinner and a live auction.
According to organiser Diane Brazelton, the focus is always on fun and laughter and the evening will include lots of entertainment, both amateur and professional. There will also be a draw for a ‘mystery box’ prize.
The first event took place in 1997 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Humane Society and became an annual celebration.
“We have grown from a guest list of 100 to 300-plus. We have been very fortunate and thankful to attract caring, generous residents and visitors to this event, since it is the major fundraiser for us during the year,” says Diane.
Over the years, the event has raised in excess of $600,000 for the organisation, with the funds being used for capital improvements at its facility.
“We created our own surgical room, which we are very proud of. In this state-of-the-art room, we can do a number of the simpler procedures such as spay and neuter. With this investment, we are able to help the community with low cost spay and neuter procedures for pets that they adopt from us,” says Diane.
The mission of the Humane Society is to provide shelter, care and attention to all unwanted companion animals and seek out responsible and loving homes for them.
Tickets are $150 per person.
