Camana Way Plant Book

Gardening might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but even those not into gardening is bound to be impressed by the displays at the Garden Club of Grand Cayman’s annual flower show.

The event, which takes place on Friday, 5 March, from 1pm to 8pm and Saturday, 6 March, from 9am to 4pm, will be held at a new venue – Market Street in Camana Bay.

The show features two divisions – artistic design and horticulture.

Entries are open to all members on the public, not merely garden club members.

Entries in the artistic division have to be pre-registered, while the horticulture division will accept potted plants and cut specimens, as long as these are free of dirt, bugs, and damaged leaves.

Horticulture entries can be delivered to the show from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, 4 March, or from 7am to 9am on Friday, 5 March.

The show will also feature a plant sale, produce grown by the Bonaventure Boys’ Home (a project that has already provided produce to a number of restaurants), as well as a raffle for flower arrangements donated by some of the florists on Grand Cayman. At 3.30pm on Saturday, Frank Lanning, floral manager at the Ritz-Carlton, will give a flower arranging demonstration.

According to Rob Bennett, the president of the garden club, the Camana Bay landscape is a unique mix of exotic and native flora, making it a perfect venue for the annual show.

“Together, with communities like Camana Bay, we can all work, learn and grow together for the betterment of the Cayman Islands,”
he says.  WH
