As the festive season approaches Cayman Taffy Company is already getting ready to roll out its Christmas specialities.
Confectioner Doug McPherson says the biggest seller by far last year was the candy cane bark.
“It’s crushed peppermint layered between white and dark Belgian chocolate,” says Doug.
“People just couldn’t get enough of it.”
The bark is a good testament to the fact that the company, located in Seven Mile Shops on West Bay Road, has successfully moved well beyond its saltwater taffy-making roots. Along with its signature item, the company now carries over 40 different products, all painstakingly made on site by Doug.
The company’s products are Cayman-made, which make them an excellent choice for a one-of-a-kind gift or souvenir.
“Caramel pecans, most of our chocolates, our caramel popcorn, and fruit jellies are very easy to transport,” Doug says.
“I’d suggest the coconut, pecan, almond, peanut or mixed nut brittles as well.”
Fudge fans should also take note – Cayman Taffy makes some great fudge flavours.
If you really can’t decide what to give, combine delectable chocolate truffles, caramel pecan turtles or any other favourites into one-of-a-kind gift boxes and baskets.
“Starting at this time of year, we’re making hostess gifts, party gifts, catering items and corporate gifts,” Doug says.
“Our basket prices range from $10 to $200. When you come into the shop we will find a combination that meets your budget and you will not have to compromise on the quality.”
New this year and a choice definitely worth considering are mango and passion fruit caramels. Made from puréed local mangoes blended with sea salt caramel, a dab of passion fruit and surrounded by luxurious Belgian chocolate, they are certainly an item you wouldn’t find anywhere else.
The store also carries lots of fun festive items including Christmas chocolate reindeer and Santas. WH
