ARTUP and OUT:
An Exhibition of Contemporary Street Art. 5 November 2009 to 7 January 2010. The National Gallery will present an eclectic variety of contemporary street art by emerging local artists. Street art is being recognised as the defining art movement of the 21st century, but often still lacks recognition from mainstream art.Part artform, part public platform, street art addresses topics of social relevance in a medium that allows the artist to reach out to the a much wider audience than a traditional artwork would reach, through the utilisation of public space.Late Night at the Gallery: New bi-monthly late night opening will broaden the gallery’s accessibility to the organisation’s shows. 7.30pm to 9pm at the Gallery in Harbour Place. National Gallery’s Art Flix: Held on the third Wednesday in each month the National Gallery presents ART FLIX, a public screening of art films and documentaries relating to the history of art. Introduced with a short lecture, attendees are invited to discuss films following screenings. A complimentary glass of wine accompanies the 6.30pm film at the National Gallery, Harbour Place. It's the perfect place to express yourself – or to be yourself. Floetry usually takes place on the third Wednesday of the month.
