The Cayman Islands Real Estate Brokers Association recently became the title sponsor of the National Women’s Basketball League.

The league boasts four teams in Domino’s Lady Heals, Home Gas Flames, Silver Bullets and Welly’s Cool Spot. All have been competing for several weeks.

Last week saw the end of the regular season with Dominos coming out on top with just one loss. Home Gas finished second, Silver Bullets came third and Welly’s fell into fourth in spite of a two game win streak to end the season.

The President of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association Bryan Hunter talked about the importance of supporting women’s basketball.

“The real estate association’s sponsorship is important to us in several respects,” Hunter said. “It allows for the continued development of our most talented female basketball players for our national team programmes.

“It also provides an opportunity for our more senior players to continue to play basketball and it increases the level of interest in our sport from spectators and young persons, which we hope will draw more and more talent into the sport in the future.”

Michael Day, secretary of the real estate association, recently made a cheque presentation to Hunter and said it was important to support basketball in Cayman.

“The real estate association is very proud to be the sponsor of the women’s basketball league. Our sponsorship reaffirms our determination to be meaningfully involved in the community. Basketball is a growing sport in Cayman and we are particularly proud to be involved with that growth.”

Hunter added corporate partners allow local basketball to thrive.

“Without the continued support of our sponsors we would not be able to continue our basketball programmes offered to the community,” Hunter said. “We are very grateful for their sponsorship and we look forward to working with them for many leagues to come.”
