Students and their families have donated the food which will be distributed to West Bay families, in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Department of Children and Family Services, in October.

The project was the brainchild of West Bay Neighbourhood Officer PC Sharon Baillie and school Principal Becky Profitt.

“The students and their families have really come up trumps,” Mrs. Profitt said. “Every day they bring more food items into the school and deposit them in the collection boxes. They realise that there are people in the area who will benefit from their efforts and they are all very proud and excited to be a part of this project.”

PC Baillie said: “We began the collection in June as part of the RCIPS Junior Police Academy to encourage students to be good citizens and to make a positive contribution to their local community. The response from the children and their parents has been overwhelming. I’m sure that this will now become an important annual event in the Wesleyan calendar.”

The food collection will continue until the end of September.
