Ten Grand Cayman bars have signed up to work together in order to create unity and raise awareness of their establishments within the community.
The concept is that every Tuesday, a different bar will host what is termed a ‘Bar Robin’, which involves drink specials and giveaways including cash.
“We will get to unite better and after the Bar Robin, we will form the Cayman Islands Bar Association and then we hope to have more say in things as a body rather than just a bar speaking out,” said Fred Whittaker, manager of the Mango Tree.
Positive result
Donna Myrie of Rooftop Lounge said that bar owners had decided to co-market and in combination reach one positive end result.
“To help achieve this we have come together. Our concerns to government for change to the existing antiquated laws which restrict our businesses will also be addressed with
one united voice.
“The Bar Robin series is the start of many new initiatives to come,” she told the Compass.
Lucille Barnes, owner of Meringue Town Bar, said that she got the idea from a friend in Jamaica who owned a bar.
“I called a few bar owners on the island and spoke with them about doing one in Cayman, they were interested and so I sent an invitation to all bar owners to come to a meeting where I introduced the idea and this is how it all has come together.”
Cayman Distributors’ Brian Moxam said that the company was excited about working with local bars.
“[We] and are extremely happy they have come together in this economy in unity; this shows that in our island lifestyle we have love,” Mr. Moxam said.
Following the 10-week series, organisers hope to attract more bars for future series as well as extending the invitation to Cayman Brac.
