white water rafting Head to Honduras for an adrenalin filled weekend. – Photo: file

After several months of back to back five-day working weeks, November heralds the return of those much-loved public holidays - an ideal excuse to get away for a long weekend without sacrificing any holiday time.

Cayman is ideally positioned just an hour’s flight from several destinations, making short breaks a very real possibility. Cayman Travel Services can offer a variety of packages over the November long weekend.

Fashionistas and shopaholics can conceivably work all day Friday and still arrive in Miami or Tampa with a good few shopping hours to spare. Both cities offer an impressive selection of shopping malls as well as downtown areas where one can wander among coffee shops, boutiques and restaurants and also take in some big city culture.

If your preference is for nature and adventure, on the other hand, within two hours of leaving Cayman you could be deep in the Pico Bonito National Park in Honduras. Just a short drive from La Ceiba airport, you will find a variety of jungle lodges offering varying degrees of luxury. These lodges are the perfect base from which to ride horses through the lush rainforest, hike to waterfalls, zipline through the jungle canopy or go white water rafting.

From now until 20 December, those heading off for a long weekend can take advantage of a great deal at the Lodge at Pico Bonito, a luxury boutique hotel, where the third night’s stay is offered for free.

If you prefer to spend your time off at sea, three day cruises to the Bahamas are available over the long weekend. Talk to Cayman Travel Services about the packages they can put together for you.
