Logic is the new name for WestTel in the Cayman Islands
TOPIC: Offshore News
November 3, 2010
Logic is the new name for WestTel in Cayman.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of KeyTech Ltd., the Logic brand builds on the solid foundations established since WestTel’s inception in 2003, as a provider of innovative, high quality communications solutions for business, government and residential customers in the Cayman Islands.

As part of a group that has been providing communications services for over a century, Logic is looking forward to its next phase of growth.

“The economies that can be achieved between our business and other group subsidiaries will mean better control of our collective cost base, enhancing our ability to develop and deploy world class solutions in the Cayman Islands. We also intend to take full advantage of the established relationships that KeyTech have with global powerhouses such as Verizon”, said Michael Edenholm, Logic’s Chief Executive Officer. Edenholm went on to say,

“These changes will strengthen our presence in Cayman and drive our ability to deliver world class solutions with outstanding customer service.”

The changes have come about as a result of Keytechs’ purchase, from WestStar TV, of outstanding shares in WestTel. KeyTech has a rich history spanning more than a century in Bermuda, where the group operates mobility, landline, ISP, IT Services, directory and cable TV businesses.

Further demonstration of KeyTech’s rich heritage and commitment to the markets which it serves, comes through its recent deployment of the ‘Challenger’ undersea cable system, connecting Bermuda with the US. Challenger is now a tangible national asset and is helping to satisfy Bermudas’ continued requirements for high speed international connectivity. The same expertise which ensured delivery of this substantial project is now supporting the next phase of Logic’s growth in Cayman, which includes deployment of the George Town phase of Logics’ fiber optic network. For businesses within this key district, real connectivity choice is coming for the very first time.

Let us explain !

Any George Town business currently using fiber or copper services, even where those services are being provided by different providers, may unwittingly be assuming the risks associated with ‘single points of failure’, as all services use the same underground trenches. Therefore, in the event that the trench into a building is disrupted, it is likely that all existing communication services, by all existing providers will be affected.

Their multimillion dollar investment means that Logics’ trenches and fiber optic cables will be entirely separate from other providers, significantly reducing the operational risk associated with an absence of connectivity to the outside world. This significant investment in the fabric of Caymans’ infrastructure is already providing true diversity and offers Logic customers real solutions to the ongoing challenges surrounding IT network diversity and compliance, so critical in offshore jurisdictions.

Lewie Hydes, Chief Operating Officer comments,

“Following the outstanding success of our initial rollout, which now provides service to key commercial and residential properties along West Bay Road, we are excited by the challenge of deploying in George Town. The deployment satisfies a real need for infrastructure diversity in the area and will help us develop and deliver cutting edge, voice, data and hosted solutions.

In parallel with planning of the fiber roll out, Logic is working on some exciting services to help businesses across the island continue to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Working with their sister organisations and suppliers, they will be building on their existing Internet, data, MPLS, voice and cloud computing capabilities. Watch out for a range of eye catching propositions for businesses and government departments of all sizes.

Recognising the current economic situation in the country, Mr. Hydes also commented, “We are also delighted that the project will engage local expertise to deploy the system, ensuring that the substantial revenues associated with the project, will remain within the local economy, evidence of another way in which Logic is actively supporting the community which it seeks to serve.“

The continued contribution of substantial funds to youth and adult programmes at Kings Sports Centre is further demonstration of the priority that Logic places on its role as a good corporate citizen. As part of their re-branding project, Logic are also proud to announce a new sponsorship agreement with the Cayman Rugby Football Union. As part of this partnership Logic are now primary providers of all communication services to the Union and the power behind an exciting new venture, Cayman Rugby TV (www.caymanrugbytv.com). Logics’ high speed Internet services, installed at the CRFU headquarters in South Sound, allow Cayman rugby fans all over the world to check out streaming of games live from the ground plus an archive of previous games, tournaments and interviews. With rugby a new addition to the Olympic programme, Logic are proud to play their part in supporting our young players and the next generation of Cayman Olympians.

So please look out for Logic in the coming weeks. Their commitment to helping Cayman connect with the world continues and you’ll be hearing more from them very soon.
