KPMG awards new scholars
TOPIC: Education
October 6, 2010

KPMG continues to show a desire in supporting and developing the young people of the Cayman Islands. Most recently, through its scholarship programme, three young Caymanians graduated with their bachelor’s degree and two new recipients received overseas scholarships to attend the school of their choice. The firm also continues to support six other recipients who are pursuing their undergraduate degree overseas and locally.

Christsania McLean is one such new recipient for KPMG’s overseas scholarships. She recently completed her Associates Degree from University College of the Cayman Islands with honours. Christsania will be continuing her studies at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey.  Allison Hydes is the second recipient; she graduated from the Cayman Islands Prep School and will continue her studies at the University of Tampa.

David Shibli, Samantha Whorms and Tanja Scott completed their Undergraduate degree overseas and are now working within the firm. Brian Ogilvie and Daphnie Frederick are continuing their studies in the United States with a concentration in Accounting. Frank Gale and Samantha Hennings are pursuing their undergraduate’s degree in Canada.

KPMG also continues to support its local scholarship recipients - Dennis Connor and Kishna Green. Both students are continuing their bachelor’s degree at the University College of the Cayman Islands.

KPMG provides Cayman’s young people with an interest in accounting the opportunity to continue their studies locally or overseas. Along with their scholarship, students gain experience, training and knowledge through interning with the various departments within the firm. This helps them excel in various academic backgrounds and thrive in their studies.

Sheenah Hislop, partner, expressed her thoughts by stating “We understand the importance of education in developing the skills needed for tomorrow’s generation. KPMG works to provide young Caymanians with the tools necessary to succeed in the financial services industry.”

Persons interested in applying for a scholarship may contact Cindy Reid, Recruitment Executive at cindyreid@kpmg.ky. The Scholarship Programme booklet and application form may also be downloaded at kpmg.ky or copies may be obtained from the KPMG office in Cricket Square on Elgin Avenue in George Town.
