A taste of something different

Livio Felluga  “Terre Alte”  2007 – Friuli, Italy
Terre Alte is a blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco, and Sauvignon. The Terre Alte has a vibrant straw yellow color with golden yellow highlights. It has an extraordinary nose that is elegant, complex, broad and pervasive with hints of ripe tropical fruit, citrus, walnut and sweet almond. Its soft structured palate lends itself to a full bodied and rich flavor with a long and fruity finish accompanied by lingering notes of spice.
 
The reason I have selected this wine is because it was announced the best white wine in Italy in 2007. And on a more personal note, since I have tried it, I have seen the quality of this wine.

Frank family Chardonnay 2008 – Napa Valley,USA
Housed in the historic Larkmead winery in Napa Valley, Frank Family Vineyards produces wines that live up to the heritage of the land on which they are produced.
 
The wines are handcrafted in small quantities and are only sold at the winery, and a selected few. The Frank family winery was voted number one Napa Valley winery by the San Francisco Chronicle’s best of the bay list.  I had the opportunity to visit the winery personally and was really impressed and could not deny mentioning this delightful wine. 
 
Pear apple Tarte Tatin, the mid palate expresses country scones with warm lemon curd and fresh baked sugar cookies, and the finish lingers exposing notes of toasted nuts and subtle hints of smoke, while being accented by wildflower honey throughout.

Prager Grüner Veltliner Achleiten Smaragd 2006 – Wachau, Austria
Grüner Veltliner is Austria‘s most famous grape variety. It is indigenous to Austria and is grown extensively in every Austrian wine region with the exception of Steiermark.
 
It constitutes 36 per cent of all vineyard plantings with the best wines coming from the north-east of the country, particularly regions such as the Wachau, Kamptal and Kremstal which border the Danube River. Winemaking is dominated by stainless steel; however the grapes have more than enough to say for themselves.
 
I am very proud to have this wine on our list because it’s incredibly rare to find on the Caribbean. White pepper, capsicum, then hints of guava and white tobacco describes the Gruner Veltliner grape.
