Australia and China forge greater links

A $10 billion trade agreement recently signed by Australia and China has Australia’s government outlining plans to invest around $30 million over the next two years in selling Australia as tourism destination to Chinese travellers.

A bilateral forum on boosting two-way tourism will also be held in Cairns in the near future, according to former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

“China is expected to emerge as Australia’s number one source market for international visitors in the next few years,” Rudd said in a statement.

At Australia’s recent Asia Luxury Travel Market, it was generally regarded that China will emerge as the dominate force in the region.

As part of the plans, Tourism Australia’s “There’s Nothing like Australia” advertising campaign will be rolled out in China early this month.

The $10 billion trade agreement focusses efforts in the main on the resources and energy sector. Telecommunications and training developments were also discussed.
