Junior Achievement
TOPIC: Chamber Building Blocks
20 July, 2011

Over the past 20 years, thousands of students across the Cayman Islands have benefited from the hands-on, interactive experience that is Junior Achievement. This non-profit organisation brings together the business community, educators and volunteers to teach the key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy and inspires young people to dream big.

To capture the very best of Junior Achievement’s record of success, Junior Achievement Cayman has established an alumni association. The association aims to maintain the connection between alumni and Junior Achievement Cayman, encourage interaction among the Junior Achievement alumni network, and raise funds for the organisation.

As past Junior Achievers, alumni are uniquely positioned to give back to the community in a noble way. Life experiences, combined with an intimate understanding of the programme, enable alumni to provide today’s Junior Achievers with invaluable lessons and guidance. Additionally, Junior Achievement advisors go beyond sharing the principles of market-based economics by making an educational and motivational impact. Alumni bring an unmatched level of passion and inimitable perspective to the programme and achievers.

Junior Achievement has provided many individuals in the Cayman Islands community with a solid foundation for their careers. Alumni have used their skills to become graphic design gurus, motor mechanics, titans of tourism, first-class physicians, environmental engineers, communications authorities, auditors and accountants, booming business owners, music moguls ... and the list goes on. The alumni association provides past Junior Achievers with an environment to form new friendships and business relationships through this special connection.

The Junior Achievement programme requires not only research and development for its curriculum to maintain its relevance to the world of today and tomorrow, but also the steady recruitment of volunteers and the organisation of special events and initiatives. These student-focused activities depend on the generosity of the Cayman Islands community. The alumni association will assist with raising the Junior Achievement profile and play an integral part in reaching out to today’s key decision makers who were likely Junior Achievers as well. Junior Achievement is a way to maximise the effect of charitable giving by preparing children for the workforce, and donations to Junior Achievement are investments in the lives of achievers who are the leaders of tomorrow.
