Chamber Council for 2010

 In 2009, working in partnership with the membership, community groups and associations the Chamber:

• Approved a five-year strategic plan that identifies key initiatives that will improve the capacity of the organisation to better serve the membership in delivering quality programmes and services that support, promote and protect business and community success.

• Increased its membership base to 734, representing every industry sector operating in the Cayman Islands, making the Chamber the largest network of businesses operating in the Cayman Islands. 

• Upheld the principles of the market economy and free enterprise, and protected and championed the public policy positions of the membership on key issues such as the national budget, constitutional reform, immigration and economic development.

• Launched Leadership Cayman, a dynamic, intensive, interactive, six month experience designed to promote and enhance community leadership through an in-depth introduction to social, economic, business and political issues in the Cayman Islands. www.leadershipcayman.ky

• Introduced free business assistance seminars to help members learn about new products and services that can help to increase productivity and profitability.

• Launched Business Connect networking event to allow business owners to meet and greet and exchange information to drive new business leads and relationships.
   
  
• Donated $18,000 to Cayman Hospice Care and the NCVO Pines Retirement Home as part of the proceeds from the REMAX/Chamber Golf Classic.

• Organised 10 Business After Hours events to promote products and services of the membership.

• Upheld our Environmental Pledge by presenting the first Green Fair showcasing businesses with environmentally friendly products, in conjunction with our 12th annual Earth Day Roadside Clean-Up.

• Continued to support and promote youth programmes such as Junior Achievement, Mentoring Cayman, Career Awareness Visits and Graduation Awards.

• Represented the membership at the historic Cayman Islands constitutional talks alongside representatives from the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, members of Government, members of the Opposition and other non-governmental organisations.

• Organised the 2009 Candidates’ Forums, which allowed candidates from each district to debate major national, business and district issues on the same platform.

• Encouraged the awareness of increased crime by supporting Cayman Crime Stoppers and having the commissioner of police address the membership.

• Maintained and fostered relationships with local Government officials at two separate Legislative luncheons.

• Continued to honour the spirit and dedication of Cayman’s educators through the Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Lifetime Achievement Awards.

• Established relationship with the CISHRP whose members add to the complement of facilitators at the Professional Development & Training Centre.

• Connected with membership at the first organised Chamber social function held at Vivendi Cabaret.

• Coordinated the Sister Islands Christmas Joy initiative to assist Cayman Brac businesses in recuperating from Hurricane Paloma.
