Conyers Dill & Pearman expands litigation team
> Comment on this story

On 1 July, 2009, Conyers Dill & Pearman welcomes former Cayman Islands Complaints Commissioner John Epp to its growing litigation team.

John started his legal career as a civil litigation specialist in Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1983. Before taking up his appointment as the first Complaints Commissioner for the Cayman Islands, John had been senior tutor and deputy director of the Cayman Islands Law School for many years. John is a well known figure in the community.

Since recruiting Nigel Meeson QC two years ago to start a litigation department, Conyers has seen it treble in size.

Nigel was recruited from the English Bar and is the only English silk in full time practice in the Cayman Islands. He started the department with Fraser Hughes, formerly of Bennett Jones in Toronto. Fraser has a degree in English law in addition to his Canadian qualifications. Conyers quickly achieved a reputation for consistently providing timely, responsive and thorough advice and work flooded in. It was necessary to expand. Linda Da Costa, an experienced, well known and popular local litigation attorney joined in early 2008.

More recently a talented young local attorney, Richard H. Barton Jr., joined from the Attorney General’s Chambers, followed by Stephen Leontsinis, formerly an advocate at Johannesburg Bar. With the addition of John the team will be six strong with a unique blend of local and overseas talent. Both Linda and Richard were students at the Cayman Islands law School taught by John. In addition Conyers is fortunate to have ex litigators in its Funds and Corporate departments who are able to add to the team when required.

Conyers has built a talented litigation team, which has the strength in depth to provide cost effective commercial solutions to its clients.
