Thousands gathered to witness demolition of a decaying tower block once dubbed Heroin Heights. Glencairn Towers in Motherwell, Scotland, was demolished using 100 kilos of dynamite and 64 separate charges to make way for 500 new homes.
The 47-year-old 17-storey block, which had 160 flats, had become notorious for housing drug addicts.
Local Jack Walsh, 71, who watched the tower fall, said: "It just seemed to get taken over, no one else wanted to live there."
North Lanarkshire Councillor Barry McCulloch added: "It's a milestone in the town and it was spectacular. That's it done and dusted."
