A 40-year-old woman was arrested after an early morning car crash Tuesday on Crewe Road.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said at about 1.45 a.m. Tuesday, the woman was driving a Jeep east on Crewe Road, George Town.

As the vehicle approached Canal Lane it left the roadway, collided with a concrete column and overturned, leaving the driver trapped inside.

Emergency services attended and the driver was cut free from the vehicle. She was taken to George Town hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

There was no-one else within the vehicle at the time of the crash and no other vehicles were involved.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and was released on police bail.

RCIPS officers at Tuesday’s crash scene said a dog had been killed in the crash, but it was not clear where the animal had come from.

There need to be tougher laws on people drink driving and for using cell phones while driving. The amount of near accidents you have on this island each week because of people that have no concept on how to drive is astounding! They don't know how to use their indicators, just randomly stop in the middle of the road (this is my particular favourite of mine!) don't know how to use a roundabout, overtake you into oncoming traffic or are so busy talking on the phone to realise what is actually going on around them!

Start basing the law on UK driving laws and have a points system on your licence. We need some kind of deterrent for these idiots!
