A fight that broke out in the hall of the main George Town courthouse Tuesday morning sent two police officers to the hospital.

According to witnesses, three or four officers and courthouse security personnel were seen wrestling a man to the ground outside court room No. 2 in the second floor section of the building. Apparently, a man who had just made a court appearance on a cocaine-related charge in Summary Court was the suspect involved in the altercation.

One officer who was hurt suffered a twisted knee, according to reports. The second officer sustained a hand injury. Both were expected to recover

According to a statement released on the incident by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service: “Shortly after 10am Tuesday, two police officers were injured as they arrested a suspect at the George Town Court House.

“The suspect, who had been wanted in relation to an aggravated burglary, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, resisting arrest and assault.”
