Tropical Storm Sandy is heading directly for Jamaica and is expected to make landfall near Kingston at hurricane strength sometime Wednesday.
As of 10am Cayman time Tuesday, Sandy was 300 miles south-southwest of Kingston and moving north-northeast at 5mph. It had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph but it is expect to steadily intensify until it makes landfall in Jamaica, becoming a hurricane by Wednesday.
Although Sandy’s center will stay well east of all three Cayman Islands, the large storm system is still expected affect the weather, primarily with rain showers, rough seas and windy conditions.
A marine warning will be in effect Wednesday and Thursday, and a small craft advisory is in effect today, plus on Friday and Saturday.
