Fancy yourself as a boat racer? Inspired by the Olympics? Well, here’s your chance to get involved as one of the participants in the world-famous Pirates Week Cardboard Boat Regatta.
The event that started five years ago has become one of the most popular of the National Festival and commands an audience of several thousand.
Just imagine – boats made completely of cardboard, duct tape and glue, racing around Hog Sty Bay. How do they move? Well, with lots of duct tape and propelled by paddles, oars, or sails, you name it. Some do float, but in this race it can only be described as merry confusion. And the sinking is only part of the fun.
Starting at 2.30pm with the stand up Paddle Board Race, entertainment will be going on all afternoon the main event at 4.15pm. This is on the second Saturday of Pirate Week, 17 November and is absolutely one event that you cannot miss.
Get in the water
The event is open to anyone over the age of 17 and companies and private teams. There is also a Paddle Board race before the main event. There is no better way to join in the fun, festivities and carnival atmosphere in the George Town Harbour area that surround the Final Party night for Pirates Week in Grand Cayman and at the same time help a worthy cause.
All funds go toward supporting a Special Needs children in cayman. You do not have to enter a boat to contribute. It is an opportunity to have fun and is a great team building exercise for companies and their staff. Companies may enter one team or more and create some healthy interdepartmental competition.
