The Cayman Islands Tourism Association’s annual Stingray Awards reward excellence within the tourism industry during a special event.

“I felt honoured to be a nominee for this award, because this was the first time that I have been nominated for this award,” said Nassaria Millwood, assistant housekeeping manager at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. “[When my name was called out as winner] I thought to myself, ‘is it really me who won this award?’ To be honest I was not looking to win because there were so much people before me.”

Ms Millwood has been working in the position for four years and has a long and successful record in the industry.

“This was my very first Job after leaving school from February 1993 to today,” she said. “I started as a housekeeper, after that a housekeeping supervisor and now assistant housekeeping manager.”
The George Town native also offered some advice for anyone wishing to follow in her footsteps within the tourism and hospitality sector.

“I would say the secret of success in the hospitality industry is to have a passion for service. When you show your guests that you truly care about them they will always have wonderful memories of the place and the people who took good care of them. They will want to return.”
