Lee here to pass on techniques

Cayman netball is about to start a new chapter.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association will welcome Gillian Lee as its new technical director on Tuesday, 24 April. Netball will have a national coach for the first time in roughly a decade.

Association president Lucille Seymour states Lee will be improving the sport here.

“Gillian is arriving in Cayman to take up a two-year stint with the association,” Seymour said. “She comes at a time when we need her most to grow the potential of netball, using it as a pro-social activity in partnering with people in the sport. Netball is an agent of change and must be used not just competitively but to balance the social landscape. Her role also is to expand and develop more qualified coaches at the base level, enabling proper techniques and strategies of the game to be taught.”

Lee has been one of Australia’s most elite coaches over the past three decades, with accolades spanning junior level netball through to state and national level teams and netball programmes. She is unrivalled with her achievements at a Championship State League level (the highest level of club state-based netball in Australia) with four premierships under her belt.

In addition to this, her achievements at the inter-state, Nationals level is just as impressive, having taken Victoria to National Champions at both an U19 and U21 level multiple times. Lee, herself, was an elite player having represented Victoria, the Australian Institute of Sport and Australia as a key circle defender.

As one of the countries few high performance, level three accredited coaches Lee’s coaching experience is vast and includes the positions of: Australian Institute of Sport specialist coach, Monash University Central State League Club head coach, Melbourne Phoenix National Netball League specialist and assistant coach, Victorian Institute of Sport assistant coach, Victorian U21 and U19 coach and Victorian team selector for both under age and senior teams.

At a junior level, Lee is the owner and coaching director of Netskills, a successful netball coaching consultancy that offers services in junior coaching, coach education and the publication of coaching manuals, DVDs and school-aged novels. Netskills is the largest business of its kind in Australia and has had a significant impact on the standard of coaching and junior players being produced across the country over the past 20 years. She has also presented at numerous international and Australian coaching conferences over the past 15 years.
