KPMG hunt hurt Sharks

The KPMG Senators are looking to cement a solid youth hockey campaign.

KPMG plays in the Logic Youth Roller Hockey League playoffs this Saturday, 10 December. Taking place at Kings Sports Centre, the Senators are in action in the PeeWee division against the fourth seed Appleby Sharks.

The Senators are coming off a 9-1 victory over the Vampt Oilers, who slipped to the third seed with the loss.

Vampt ends up facing the second ranked Stuart Panthers, who capped off an incredible season with a 7-5 victory over perennial champions Appleby.

Outside of the PeeWee ranks, other age groups will see postseason action on Saturday.

At 12noon the top Novice division side the Dart Ducks skate with the fourth seed MaplesFS
Jets.

From there the second-ranked PWC Lightning face the third seed Walkers Blue Iguanas at 1.15pm. The squads recently played their regular season finales, with Dart edging PWC 6-4 to secure first place while Walkers pounded the Jets 11-1.

Saturday’s playoff slate concludes with the Atom division as the top-ranked Conyers Canucks tackle fourth seed the Ernst and Young Eagles at 2.30pm. The last match of the day is the second seed WestStar Wild up against the third seed Eats Blazers. In their regular season finales WestStar downed Eats 9-6 while the Eagles clawed up the Canucks 12-6. Playoff seeding for the heavily contested grouping would come down to head-to-head records.

Local hockey fans can also be on the lookout for the adult finals.

The heralded Cherry Cup, Cayman’s national hockey championship, begins this Sunday, 11 December, at 9am.

Reigning champions ITS Cayman of the Logic Adult Roller Hockey League look to defend their crown against perennial threats the High Rollers. The squads booked their tickets to the finals on Tuesday in the opening playoff round as ITS beat the Legendz Longhorns 10-3 and the High Rollers edged the Islanders 5-4 in overtime.

The rematch of last season’s finals sees game two on Tuesday, 13 December, at 8pm with game 3, if necessary, on Wednesday, 14 December, at 7:15pm.
