Mariah Forbes’ hot pink pirates costume stole the show at Miss North Side Pirates Costume Competition and Fashion Show fundraiser Saturday night. 

Her efforts, along with other model participants, gained a couple hundred to assist North Side Pirates Week Committee with cash to be used toward Ms Forbes’ costumes in the upcoming Pirates Week Costume competition and heritage day during Pirates Week. 

The fundraising event, held at the North Side Civic Centre by the Heritage committee, was well-attended. 

“Concerning the wet weather we had over the weekend the competition was an overall success and we had a good turnout of North Side residents to the event,” said Stanley Panton, deputy chairman. “The committee was impressed by the tremendous amount of youth participation in the fundraising event.” 

Two young ladies participated in the costume competition. Mariah Forbes was dressed in a pink fancy costume created by Vinette Glidden, while Ashley Terry was dressed in a lady pirate outfit purchased from the Pirates Week Gift Store. A host of North Side youngsters modelled the latest wear from Reflections and some up-and-coming singers from Cayman’s Got Talent made the event for those attending a success. 

The event also featured Girls Brigade selling sweets and cakes and North Siders preparing mouth-watering fried fish and fritters. 

For her efforts, Forbes will represent the district of North Side as their festival queen during the upcoming Pirates Week heritage day and street parade to be held in George Town. 

The North Side Pirates Week committee thanks those individuals and companies who contribute to the fund raising event especially Cayman Airways, Kaibo and Chester’s.
