The Arteccentrix base previously situated at a gallery Governor’s Square has moved to central George Town.

The commercial fine art gallery first opened in 2010 and under the direction of Nickola McCoy-Snell and husband Maurice Snell has curated shows by individuals and groups from established and emerging local artists.

However, in order to concentrate on fine art services as well as Nickola’s own artwork, the decision was taken to close the Governor’s Square location in late January.

“We decided on the move for a number of reasons but one of the main ones is a return to a much greater focus on Nickola’s own work - running a traditional retail outlet has left her no time to create and both she and our shareholders felt that this needed to change.

“We also want to focus more on the other aspects of our business which were not getting the time and attention they need. Our new operation will enable us to do a lot more with our time,” said the team.

Working studio

The new premises, at 273 Dorcy Drive and directly opposite Car City, opened officially on Thursday, 17 February and will function both as a gallery and working studio for artist in residence, Nickola.

The space will also house a printing business.

With her long overdue return to work as an artist, Nickola’s new pieces are very much the Nickola McCoy of old, and a return to her love of big, bold abstract pieces encompassing the emotional depth and colours with which so many have become familiar.
