Tropical Storm Richard continued its western path Saturday, steadily picking up forward speed and leaving Cayman out of the danger zone for heavy tropical weather.

By Saturday, the storm was nearing the northern Honduras coast and remained well southwest of Grand Cayman. It was moving west at eight miles per hour.

Richard had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour as of Saturday morning.

Although the the system had once been expected to develop into hurricane by the weekend, the most recent forecasts did not anticipate such strengthening. Richard was expected to strike Belize or the Yucatan sometime Monday as a tropical storm, according to the latest predictions.

The National Weather Service has indicated that Richard currently poses no immediate threat to the Cayman Islands but is expected to bring more rain over the next few days.
