Pre-teens, teens in court on robbery charge

Two boys, age 12, and two teen-age girls appeared in Summary Court on Tuesday, charged with robbery of a pizza delivery man on 28 July.

Mika Marley Manderson, 17, was named on the day’s court list. The other girl is 14 and was listed by her initials, as were the two boys.

They are accused of stealing four large pizzas and two bottles of 7-Up from a delivery man for Gino’s Pizzeria and using force against him.

Chief Magistrate Margaret Ramsay-Hale set 28 September for a preliminary inquiry to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to be sent to Grand Court. Robbery is a charge that can be dealt with only in the higher court.

The magistrate also set a curfew of 6pm to 6am as one of the conditions of bail for all four defendants.

They were represented by Attorneys John Furniss and Lloyd Samson.

The Youth Justice Law sets out which court will deal with matters involving youths, depending on circumstances. The same law also defines a young person as someone under 17.

There are reporting restrictions involving a young person in court. Generally, these include name, address, school or any particulars, or photographs that would lead to identification.
